Almelund Threshing Show

Featuring Massey and equipment

 

Gates open daily at 7:00 a.m.  Admission is $25 for all three days or $15 per day (MN sales tax included in price). Wristbands must be worn at all times.   Children age 12 and under are free with adults.

 

Camping fees are $10/per unit per night.  There are no dump stations on site. 

There is an ATM on site located in Entertainment Building.  Closest gas station and groceries are at Rod’s Country Corner (2.9 miles west).  No glass containers are allowed on grounds. 

Dogs are welcome.  They must be on leash at all times.  You are responsible for cleaning up any deposits that they make – be sure to care a couple of plastic bags with you when out with your dog!   There are water bowls at various water faucets in the main area.

 

 

 

Almelund Threshing Show Daily Activities

 

All events are subject to weather!

 

7 am – Gates are open.  Get your wristband and get going for the day.  The Flea Market with almost 150 vendors is open.  It features everything – antiques, tractor parts, original art – lots of great deals.   Check out this year’s raffle tractor by the main entrance and take a chance on being its new owner by purchasing a ticket.

7 am to 10:30 am – Breakfast is served by the Almelund Volunteer Fire Department at the Main Food Shack.

8 am – Beer garden operated by the Almelund Lions Club opens for the day in the Entertainment Building except on Sunday when it is closed until after the church service.

8 am to 5 pm – Registration for the Tractor Parade and Tractor Pulls is open at Information/Registration Building.  Most of the other buildings are open during these hours.  Carlsted’s Kids Corner and the adjacent 1870’s Log House are open 8 am to 4 pm.

Looking for some cool swag?  Don’t miss out on this year’s show shirt!  Want  a new logo T-shirt or Sweatshirt?  Children and youth sizes available.  Up to size 4XXXX in adult.   Check out all the great stuff in the shack under the windmill.

 

9 am (Fri & Sat) – Youth Tractor Safety Class for ages 12 thru 16 will be held in the Tractor Pull area.  Youth must attend this class to get their operating license for the weekend – this includes for the parade.

10:30 am to 7 pm – Main Food Shack and the Malt Shop, operated by the Almelund Volunteer Fire Department, are open for lunch and dinner.

11 am and throughout the day – Leif Bjornson from Artworks in St Croix Falls will be hand blowing fabulous glass works under the overhang next to the main gate across from Beer Garden.

11 am and periodically during the day – Threshing demonstrations using old-tyme equipment will be happening in the area east of the Threshing Shed near the Tractor Pull Area.

11:30 am – Tractor Talks happen.  Gather around this year’s featured tractors – OLIVER – near the windmill to learn more.

 

1 pm – The Tractor Parade starts.  Grandstand seating is available next to the Information Building or find a shady spot along the route.  Parade lasts a bit over an hour.  All tractors participating in the parade must register ahead of time and have their parade number visible on the front of their tractor as they enter the route.

 

11 pm to 7 am – Quiet hours!  No generators running.

Midnight – All gates are closed.  Beer garden closes.

Attractions & Displays

 

There is a lot to see at the Almelund Threshing Show; way more than just classic tractors!   Make sure to check out these historic and fascinating attractions.

Chisago County Courthouse (built in 1865):  American Flag display, Antique radios, Carvings of miniature farm implements & wooden toys, Law library & manual typewriter display, Old time photographer with character costumes available, Post card sales, Showcase “collections” display and “Favorite grandmother’s table setting” contest! 

If you would like to reserve a locked display cabinets to show off your antique collection or to participate in the “Grandmother’s Table”  vintage dish display, contact Marge at margestrand@yahoo.com.  This year’s tables are open to all beautiful table settings.

Fun for Kids: Playground with new equipment, Ring toss game, Farm animal pens, Pedal tractor pull (Saturday only), and Sawdust pit coin toss (Sunday only).   Be sure they visit Carlsted’s Kids Corner by the log barn.  Classes in Clover Blossom schoolhouse from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Log House, Duplex, Dairy Barn & SmokeHouse:  The showgrounds are home to a wide variety of log structures which have been moved here to preserve them.  Walk through them and imagine living there instead of your current home.  Master Gardeners are available in the Duplex house to answer your garden and weed questions. 

Pioneer Building:  Yarn spinning, Sock knitting, Rug making, Butter churning, other crafts and everyday skills.

Fairbanks Morse Engine:  This is an incredible four cylinder machine.  Wander around the area to see lots of smaller engines and pop-pop machines.

Poik’s Barber Shop:  Sit in an old fashion barber chair and get your hair cut while visiting us.

Blacksmith Shop:  Watch how horseshoes, nails and door hardware are made using hot coals and a hammer.

Sawmill and Shingle & Lathe Mills: Watch huge logs being cut into lumber for building.  Pick up a shingle branded with this year’s logo.

Clover Blossom School:  See what it was like to go to a rural school with all the students in one room.   Classes for youth from 10:00 am until 3:30 pm each day.  Opening exercises will begin with Pledge of Allegiance and a daily poem and followed by a Spelling Bee.  At 11:00 am, there will be a Trivia Bee (topic – St. Croix Watershed) and then it’s time for lunch and outdoor playground games.  Indoor activities will resume at 1:00 pm with an arts/craft project and some language learning.   The day will end with a sing-a-long that starts at about 2:45 pm.   No fee to participate.  Folks are invited to watch the activities.

Sunrise Shell Gas Station:  Owned and operated for many years by Kenny Lehman in downtown Sunrise.   Closed in 1962. 

Golf cart rentals from Lakes Area Golf Carts are located here.  Advance reservations can be made by calling Sean @763-607-2278 or email: customerservice@lakesareagolfcarts.com.  Handicap parking is located nearby.

Train Depot:  See vintage train displays and talk with local railroad enthusiasts inside this historic depot.

Friday – August 9th:

 

9 am to Noon – TBD

1 pm to 3:30 pm – TBD

4 pm to 6pm – Bingo conducted by Almelund Lions in the Entertainment Building.

4 pm till it’s done Tractor Pulls featuring farm stock tractors thru 15000 lbs, Neighborhood Feud, Powder Puff, and Open classes in the Tractor Pull Area.  There is a food shack and beer garden in that area (behind the bleachers) that are open during the pulls.

Saturday – August 10th:

 

9 am to 11:30 am TBD

9 am Youth Pedal Tractor Pull for ages 5 thru 10 years old.  Tractors provided.  In Tractor Pull Area.

Noon to 1 pm River City Cloggers in the Entertainment Building.

1:30 pm to 3:30 pm TBD

Noon till its done Tractor Pulls featuring antique tractors thru 1960 in the Tractor Pull Area.  Food shack and beer garden in that area (behind the bleachers) are open during the pulls.

          Sunday – August 11th:

 

Come early for pancakes served by the Almelund Volunteer Fire Department.  Then join us at 9 am in the Entertainment Building for an old fashion non-denominational Polka worship service Please – No motorized equipment near the building during the service!

Noon Sawdust Pit Coin Toss for children ages 3 to 10 years old near the playground area.

Noon to 1 pm River City Cloggers in the Entertainment Building.

10:30 am to 3:30 pm – TBD

Noon till its done Tractor Pulls featuring vintage tractors up to 1975 and Steel Wheels in the Tractor Pull Area.  Food shack and beer garden in that area (behind the bleachers) are open during the pulls.

4 pm Raffle Drawing at the Information Building.  Last chance to get your tickets for a OLIVER TRACTOR and help fund our Youth Tractor Restoration program.  The tractor is in peak running condition thanks a dedicated group of youth volunteers.  Proceeds from the raffle help to fund the purchase of future tractors and the youth restoration program.
